World Population Day

Yesterday was World Population Day and on February 25, 2006, it touched 6.5 billion!

In College, when I was more idealistic, I had proclaimed that I would rather adopt a child than to give birth and add on to the existing population. But, I got married and an opportunity to experience mother hood.

It is not that I am against adoption, but I wanted to experience the essence of motherhood! i wanted to feel a life within me and so, all my idealism and talk on ever growing population were thrown off the air. And yes, i enjoyed every minute of it!

So, at this stage, I can pledge that I shall try to make the world a better place to live in for the generations to come, by using the natural resources in a conservative manner.

A toast to you ! We must leave something behind for our later use :).
And along with that, if you rear some sensible souls, you have done more than your share for mother earth - that what i beleive.

two children for a couple - does not increase the population. it just maintains population. over two is the problem. 'hum do hamare do' scheme was aimed at maintaining population. 'hum do hamare ek' was aimed at reducing population. :)

it is interesting that back in 1975 indian population was close to 620 million. Today we have croseed 1.2 Billion. Over the next 30 years, we will have more number of old people than anywhere else in the world.

Think about health care costs then, resources, energy, hospitals. Not to mention the lack of any form of social welfare, absolute disregard for medical insurance, Add to that the changing attitude of the indian youth today..

hmm, certainly, your pledge of using resources wisely should serve you in good stead!

college peppy idealisitic talks and realistic adult talks are vast differing. I am caught in the ideology of my young days now to get others convinced. ofcourse nothing wrong in getting the ideas changed because un certainity is the certainity of universe.

But still holding back with in us of what we said demands lot of courage and self will.

i am not sure if i will succeed or not.. yet to be so till now. let see. destiny always throws its free will on our free will
